Food Adventures on Convoy Street

One of my favorite places to go grab a bite is Convoy Street in San Diego. There are so many delicious things to eat. Yesterday we went for lunch at one of my favorite spots on Convoy Wa Dining Okan and then went and grabbed boba at one of my new favorite spots Tan Cha and topped it off with dessert at Bing Haus.

Okan has been one of our go to restaurants for the last ten or so years. It is authentic Japanese restaurant. Pre-COVID they had their Japanese tapas on the bar that would change nightly. The ambience of Okan was just as wonderful as their food. Whenever we go we almost always order what their specials are for the day. For lunch yesterday we started with the oyster special and waygu skewers with delicios touch of fried garlic.

We also had the tongue skewers, which we order every time because they are so delicious and tender. Literally one of the best ways I have ever eaten tongue.

For lunch we shared the mentai udon, one of my favorites and the urchin and mushroom udon, which had an enormous amount of wonderful mushrooms. The mentaiko udon (spicy cod roe udon) is one of my favourite dishes in Japanese cuisine. Actually I love any dishes with mentaiko . I love the combination of the springy udon texture and the salty creamy cod roe with a hint of spiciness from the marinated roe. All toss together and top with shredded cucumber and seaweed and in this case the perfect poached egg.

Then there was the creamy uni udon with tons of mushrooms. I love uni!! It is top three favorite things to eat.

After finishing our delicious meal at Okan we went to Tan Cha to pick up a boba tea for me. I am addicted. Yesterday I had the peach teach with cheese foam and boba. It was perfect! They even give you a shovel to scoop out some of the cheese foam.

Lastly, I promised my son donuts for going to his first soccer practice of the season. I had heard Bing Haus had mochi donuts and I could not wait to try them. I have never had a mochi donut so I have nothing to compare them to, but these were amazing. My son who does not normally have a sweet two ate two and by the end of the day the 6 we ordered were gone. We will definitely be going back!

We tried the Matcha-Strawberry, Ube-Fruity Pebble, Thai Tea, Black Sesame, Sprinkles, and the Oolong Rose. They were all so good it was hard to pick a favorite. But my top three were the black sesame, thai tea and rose.

It is always fun to go on mini food adventures. I love discovering new places. These three are must try on Convoy.
